Mix #76: "Top 5 Records"

- Simple (not really) and fun. This entire mix is made of first tracks from albums. People tend to forget just how many killer cuts come from the beginning. For someone like myself who was never really into buying singles (unless on vinyl) the first 2 or 3 tunes on an album are make or break. One bad opener and I may never listen again. This list goes on forever ("Oh, that's not obvious enough Rob. How about the Beatles? Or fucking... fucking Beethoven? Side one, Track one of the Fifth Symphony... How can someone with no interest in music own a record store?") but these are some of my favorites. I know I missed a ton and trust me when I say I could have made 3 or 4 of these mixes easily. What did I miss? What would you put on your mix? Leave them in the comments and they may be in part 2.

Anyway, enjoy. And have a great weekend.

Mix #75: "Punch Out!!"

- Starts off with the new Blink-182 tune...not sure how I feel about it yet.
- Side B starts off with a great song my buddy Kenny had me listen to over the weekend. Mac McAnally is in Jimmy Buffett's band, the Coral Reefers and is an award winning country musician. The song should give you goosebumps. I don't really care much for country...well that's not true. I like older country; artists like Johnny Cash and Woody Guthrie. I don't especially care for the the newer country; artists with lyrics like, 'God is great. Beer is good. And people are crazy.' Stupid, stupid, stupid. Any chuckle with a cowboy hat and 3 teeth could have written that song. Mac keeps the old passion of country music going strong.
- An awesome hip hop group on this mix (a few actually) but one in particular is worth checking out. Lightheaded.

Enjoy. New mix Friday. Also don't forget...the St. Louis group The Pernikoff Brothers have a show coming up this coming weekend; a great homecoming for Boston's own Dan Germain. Come out, have a few drinks, and dance your ass off.
