Mix #11: "Feel The Rhythm, Feel The Rhyme"

Some reggae, jam, and ska tunes for you to enjoy; all hopefully putting you in a spring/summer frame of mind. It's hard to incorporate some of these style songs into a mix tape because most of the tunes go on, and on, and on, but it made it that much more fun to search them out.

 Enjoy. New mix on Wednesday.

Mix #10: "The House Always Wins"

If you listen to these mixes, you've probably began to realize that I end every side with a cover song. This is simply a phase-I won't be doing this forever. However, I find cover songs extremely interesting. When an artist takes a song that means a lot to them and adds their own spin, it can give it a new life.

For example, take Joe Cocker's version of 'With A Little Help From My Friends.' This man had the balls to cover a song by one of the greatest bands in the history of music. In fact, he made his version more liked than the original. You're probably thinking, 'Yeah, but Ringo sang it and his voice is awful;' a very valid point. I don't care for Ringo's voice that much either, but check out 'Boys,' 'Octopus' Garden,' and 'What Goes On.' All great vocal performances by Ringo. But McCartney and Lennon wrote 'With A Little Help From My Friends,' which also proves that a great written song doesn't mean it is any good without a great performance. Cocker made that version his own. Also check out his covers of 'She Came In Through The Bathroom Window,' and 'Come Together.' The man has some serious balls and isn't afraid to prove it.

The two covers on this mix are just a few of my favorites.
Copeland is one of my favorite groups to do cover songs. Just check out their [EP] 'Know Nothing Stays The Same.'
Grant Lee Phillips is also great a finding a different spin on well known (80's) tunes. Check out his cover album, 'Nineteeneighties.'

Mix #9: "I Got A Headache, Throw This On"

I think this is a great mix by Bonzo, except for 2 choices (which I've already told him about)
- Everlast should stick to House Of Pain ONLY
- New Radicals are terrible. I actually really like the chorus but the rest of song makes me want to kill myself. And all I can picture is that dumb video in the mall with the lead singer wearing that dumb fucking hat.
But I kept true to Bonzo's list and included both.

I had never heard 'Seven Shells' by Jason Myles Goss and I think it is a great song. I also really dig the Jonny Lang and Pete Francis tunes. Bonzo has a cool ear for music and this mix just further justifies that.

Mix #8: "Turn Off The Radio"

A lot of bands that are a little off the beat and path, but that's not their fault. Good music is good music and I feel these artists deserve to be heard. Give'em a try.

- The Antler's album, 'Hospice' gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
- The Clippers is a band from Boston who released an [EP] of 5 songs that is under 10 minutes long; kind of cool if you think about it.
- I'm still convinced U.S. Royalty are going to blow up.
