Mix #102: "Tick, Tick, Tick..."

- My buddy Kenny sent me his idea of doing a mix with 'Time,' as the theme. I think his selections (minus Coldplay and Kelly Clarkson) are awesome and I hope he continues to make some.
- Happy Monday....be good to each other.

Two For Friday: Mix #37: "Five Against One," and Mix #38: "These Aren't The Droids You're Looking For"

I received some help from two of my buddies (thanks Kenny and Bonzo) on this mix. I think it was difficult to narrow this mix down to only 5-7 songs apiece, but it was fun and I can easily see this as part one of many to come.

Mix #4: "We're Loyal, Like Brothers:" The 'Harmony' Mix

This mix was a lot of fun to make. It was my buddy Kenny's idea. He said, "No one harmonizes anymore. The more I listen to Margaritaville on Sirius the more I hate modern music. The Beach Boys? Shitty musicians. Great fuckin singers. I'm making you a harmony mix tape." It made me realize that I also kind of wanted to make a harmony mix, so we collaborated. And here it is: Mix Tape #4: "We're Loyal, Like Brothers:" The 'Harmony' Mix.

Kenny did Side A (or LOYAL)
I did Side B (or BROTHERS)

Enjoy.

Going with the 'Harmony" Mix theme, check out this amazing video I found. I wanted to put Bon Iver on this mix, but I just felt like it didn't mesh well with the vibe I was going for (or I'm completely wrong and full of shit) either way, it's a pretty impressive video.

New mix tomorrow (it's still new and exciting, so it's kind of overload right now)...Sorry (but not really)

I have a great mix coming to you this Friday...another buddy, another great compilation, so stay tuned.

(written on 4/16/10)
I hated Kenny the first time I met him in middle school. We both opted out of 6th grade study so we could take chorus and band. He was better than me in every aspect, so like any kid, I hated him. He was smart and funny. Girls liked him. He got one of the leads in the Wizard Of Oz (fucking lion) in his first year. I had to settle for the coroner of munchkin land. I looked like a Mexican pimp. Jealousy was in full effect and I wanted him to fail (which he didn't) in the worst way. But then I got to know him and realized just how great he really was. By 8th grade, we were best friends. We began dating best friends, so make out parties were in full effect. We had sleepovers where we stayed up late watching softcore porn and eating junk food-within a year, we added screw drivers stolen from his parent's liquor cabinet (funny note: many years later at a party, someone went to make a drink with vodka from the liquor cabinet-the entire bottle was filled with water-Mr. and Mrs. Hulke looked at us, shook their heads, and offered the guest Bacardi instead.) We still laugh about it to this today.

Most nights we would listen to Pearl Jam's "Live On Two Legs," often repeating "Nothing Man," and singing at the top of our lungs. Newbury Comics use to give you samplers when you bought a CD; we would often listen to this too-the key tracks being ICP's "Hall of Illusions," (the EDITED version, which with ICP is like going to a steak house and ordering salad,) and Jimmie's Chicken Shack "High." When Kenny got his license, he would pick me up to go out for a night of cruising. Radiohead's "Kid A," just came out and we both fell in love with it. He had his older brother's ID, so we would stop by a packy, get a 12 pack of Coors and a few packs of cigarettes, and drive around drinking, smoking, talking, rocking, L-I-V-I-N'! As we got older, our drinking continued; along with smoking pot/cigarettes, cocaine, and painkillers. To this day, Kenny and I are both off our preferred drugs, though we still drink and smoke cigarettes. We don't see each other as much as I would like, but we are still very close. He's married to a wonderful girl, a homeowner, and part owner of a jewelry store/engraving business. A few weeks ago, Kenny turned 26 and had a party at his house. We were drunk, broke out the acoustic guitars, and did our best to remember how to play songs/lyrics/etc; The furthest we got with a song was "Nothingman." Like our friendship, things will change, but our bond will remain.
