For example, take Joe Cocker's version of 'With A Little Help From My Friends.' This man had the balls to cover a song by one of the greatest bands in the history of music. In fact, he made his version more liked than the original. You're probably thinking, 'Yeah, but Ringo sang it and his voice is awful;' a very valid point. I don't care for Ringo's voice that much either, but check out 'Boys,' 'Octopus' Garden,' and 'What Goes On.' All great vocal performances by Ringo. But McCartney and Lennon wrote 'With A Little Help From My Friends,' which also proves that a great written song doesn't mean it is any good without a great performance. Cocker made that version his own. Also check out his covers of 'She Came In Through The Bathroom Window,' and 'Come Together.' The man has some serious balls and isn't afraid to prove it.
The two covers on this mix are just a few of my favorites.
Copeland is one of my favorite groups to do cover songs. Just check out their [EP] 'Know Nothing Stays The Same.'
Grant Lee Phillips is also great a finding a different spin on well known (80's) tunes. Check out his cover album, 'Nineteeneighties.'
